O Sumatra (ou Barbo Tigre) é um dos mais populares membros da família dos Barbos, especialmente por causa da sua aparência e temperamento. Eles são pequenos, muito ativos, brincalhões, e geralmente nem um pouco tímidos. Uma das características mais famosas dos Sumatras é a sua tendência de "beliscar" as barbatanas dos outros peixes. Peixes com barbatanas longas como Bandeiras e Bettas são vítimas prediletas. Minha experiência é que este comportamento pode ser evitado se você os mantiver em grupo (5 ou mais). Neste caso eles passam a maior parte do tempo correndo um atrás do outro, e deixam as outras espécies em paz.
